For companies that are dealing with large-volume,
high-capacity products (like industrial hollow containers), the best type of
extrusion blow molder will often be the accumulator head type.
At Arlington Machinery, we offer accumulator head extruders from the industry’s top brands including:
- Sterling
- Davis Standard
- Krupp Kautex
- Uniloy
- Battenfeld
- Graham
- Hartig
- Cincinnati
How Accumulator Blow Molders Work
Accumulator head extruders are a subset of intermittent type blow molders. In this method, the extruder moves backward and forward similar to an injection molder. The molds are located under a mono layer die head, and they remain in the same place—opening and closing to drop the extruded parts.
Accumulator heads are actually a type of reciprocating screw molder, but they have a much larger shot size than a standard reciprocating screw. This equipment allows plastic to “accumulate” in the screw until it reaches the required volume for the product; only then is it shot into the mold. As a result, accumulator blow molders have larger average shots between 3 and 75 lbs.
Common Applications for Accumulator Head Blow Molders
Accumulator type blow molders are best for large-sized, high-capacity products and typically run HDPE resin. The most common applications for accumulator blow molding machines include:
- Chemical Drums
- Water Storage Containers
- Polycarbonate Bottles
- Large Hollow Containers
- IBC Tanks
- Large Industrial Parts
- Automotive Panels
- Industrial Containers
- Large Houseware Items
